Close to 70% of the world’s population lives on less than $10 a day.  Almost 2.5 billion people live on less than $2 a day.  Unsurprisingly, for many people the consequences of a common family crisis like hospital treatment or an extreme weather event can become a life-altering circumstance that spells financial ruin.

In the absence of basic and essential social care provisions, everyday life events often turn into crippling financial liabilities. For many low-income people, micro-insurance is the only viable solution to manage the everyday problems we all face from time to time.

Humanitarian Life works in partnership with a number of financial institutions and insurance underwriters to help design and implement microinsurance programs. From facilitating local insurance providers’ reinsurance needs, to working with international humanitarian organizations and underwriters to develop programs and micro-investment initiatives, Humanitarian Life plays a role in the effort to make financial inclusion a reality.
